Our Story

Hi, we’re Maren and Teo, the two people behind Saltline.

We met working the line at a seafood bar on the coast: one of us shucked oysters, the other ran the pass. After every service we ate the same late dinner of good bread, a cold drink and whatever tin was open, and argued about which cannery packed the best sardines.

Back home, we looked for years for tins that tasted like those nights. Most of what we found was mushy, over-salted or packed in oil nobody would cook with.

So we went to the source. We spent a year visiting small canneries on the Atlantic coast, learning how the best fish is line-caught, packed by hand within hours and left to rest in the tin like a good wine. Very little of that care makes it onto a supermarket shelf.

We started with one smoked sardine and a jar of chili crisp from our own kitchen. Today every Saltline tin is packed by hand in small runs, and we still taste each batch before it ships.
